FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the race USAT sanctioned?
Yes - USAT membership or purchase of a one day membership is required to participate. Kids Tri includes the fee in the cost of the race.

Do you have Athena or Clydesdale categories?
No

Can I register on Race Day.
Sorry, NO race day registration.

If I register and can't race can I give my slot to someone?
No. USAT rules require only the person that registered can race. Photo ID will be required. If you can not race, please notify thomas.wilmarth@rochestergeneral.org so we can have a most accurate number of athletes on the course. No refunds can be given.

Do I have to wear a wet suit?
Most participants wear wet suits but they are not required. Water temps for Canandaigua Lake in late Sept. are usually in the low 60's.

How deep is the Canandaigua Lake?
Lake levels in late Sept usually allow for Sprint races to touch the bottom most of the course. Olympic distance is deeper.

Is there a changing area to change clothes?
No, but there are  40+ port-o-lets near the transition area.

Will there be a pre-race dinner?
TBD

Can I pick up my spouse/friends registration packet?
Sorry, our USAT sanction forbids us from allowing anyone to pick up registration packets other than their own. We require photo IDs to pick-up packets. Parents can pick up kids race packets.

I have friends coming to support me who would like to volunteer on race day. Who should they contact about volunteering?
thomas.wilmarth@rochestergeneral.org

Where should I park?
There is plenty of parking in the strip mall at RT 5/20, with a short walk to the race area. NO athlete or volunteer parking at the Steamboat Landing lot. Law enforcement will not allow parking anywhere on Lakeshore Dr, Steamboat Landing or an of the local businesses close to the start line.

What time should I arrive?
Registration opens at 5am, transition closes at 7am, the race starts at 7:30am. Please allow yourself enough time to beat the traffic, park, walk, get body marked and set up in transition before it closes at 7am. You will not have access to transition after 7am. Keep in mind,  1000+ athletes will be preparing to race at 7:30am.

Can I switch race categories?
No.

How many people participate in this race?
1000+
